Malawi Federation Day and Making Bread

Image
It was a busy and fun-filled day at Catfield for our federation day on Tuesday.  There was the opportunity for drumming, dancing, model making, art and role play.  We enjoyed a picnic lunch outside and enjoyed playing with friends from Sutton and Catfield. On Thursday our forest school adventures included singing, den construction, bread making and cooking over the fire.  We thought it was delicious!  Next time Miss Wones said we can make a flavoured bread and even have jam on it! Mmmmm!

Special books and a VERY special birthday...

This week Miss Wones was very excited to share her favourite book.  It wasn't a story book, but an information book.  She had one when she was little and still has it now!  Wow!  It is an atlas.  We learnt that an atlas has lots of maps and we can learn more about different continents and countries.   After exploring an atlas with a friend, we looked closely at all the different countries that make up Africa.  We chose our favourite flag to draw or paint. Today was a very special day as we celebrated a special birthday for Claire.  We created a beautiful card with Mrs Appleyard, we sang 'Happy Birthday' and James' mum and Miss Turner made delicious cakes which we thought were AMAZING!  Claire also got to do her favourite thing at school...forest school in the sunshine!  The children always have lots of different interests they want to follow - we had nettle bashing, flower fairies being made, tree identification, stew being made in the mud kitchen, den

The month of May

Last week saw us share some of our wonderful dancing with our families and local village.  We were really pleased to see so many people and the sunshine also made an appearance for us.  Before we danced some of the children said they were nervous, excited and happy.  We definitely deserved our jam and cream scone or ice lolly afterwards - yum!     This week we have learnt some really interesting things about Africa.  We know it is one of the 7 continents, it has 54 countries, it has a mountain called Kilimanjaro and you can go and see the 'big 5' animals there.  In Art we were inspired by silhouette sunset pictures of the animals and created our own.
