Fire, frost and fun with teddies!

Luckily the rain stayed away just long enough to have a fire at Forest School on Wednesday, which was great as it was quite chilly and damp, but a warm cup of hot chocolate and a toasted marshmallow meant we were all happy!

There was great excitement on Friday when we arrived at school for a frosty morning.  At playtime we discovered lots of ice in different places.  It was also the day when our favourite teddies joined us to commemorate the author, A.A Milne's birthday.  He is best known for writing the Winnie the Pooh stories, which we enjoyed listening to today.  We also squeezed in making some party hats and baking some cakes.  Phew!

Have a great weekend everyone!

First full week back and we have been captains in boats, shopkeepers counting money and even fish and spiky coral in the ocean in our dance!

As usual at Hickling, we have been lucky to have lots of visitors... On Thursday we had lots of fun with Mr Baney learning how to keep ourselves fit and healthy.  For our Collective Worship on Wednesday we learnt a new song with Mr Skivington on his guitar and on Tuesday Art Club returned with Mrs Appleyard to create wonderful wax resist pictures.  Some of the children also decided to help Mrs Appleyard to make some bright and colourful fish for our role play area in Red Room.

I wonder who will visit us next week?

Busy, busy!

We may have only been back at school for 2 days, but we have been super busy with our learning in 2019!

As it's a new year, we have of course been wishing lots of people 'Happy New Year!'  We also thought about wishes and hopes we might have for the year ahead.  After reading the book 'Whadayamean,' we came up with some things to make the world a better place, including planting more trees and recycling more.  We started some art work on the story...more to follow next week...

In Maths we have been looking at coins and using money to pay for things.  Year 1 and 2 played a money game on the computers today which you can play at home:

Finally today we celebrated lots of AMAZING home learning showing our wonderful creativity and hard work.

Singing at Hickling House

Making people smile...
On Friday we went to Hickling House to sing Christmas songs to the older people! We made them smile and in return got hot chocolate and biscuits!! We also looked at our Christmas pictures we drew for a competition. The winners were Tommy, Thomas and Grace!

Today we had our Christmas Lunch! We had special visitors come and share our Christmas Dinner with us and the teachers served us at the tables! We enjoyed crackers and made special party hats and name places for everyone.
