Visitors

First full week back and we have been captains in boats, shopkeepers counting money and even fish and spiky coral in the ocean in our dance!  

 As usual at Hickling, we have been lucky to have lots of visitors... On Thursday we had lots of fun with Mr Baney learning how to keep ourselves fit and healthy.  For our Collective Worship on Wednesday we learnt a new song with Mr Skivington on his guitar and on Tuesday Art Club returned with Mrs Appleyard to create wonderful wax resist pictures.  Some of the children also decided to help Mrs Appleyard to make some bright and colourful fish for our role play area in Red Room.  

 I wonder who will visit us next week?

Places and People

This week we have been learning in different places including the Methodist Chapel to enjoy Shrove Tuesday with delicious pancakes, and in our forest school area we found our own 'sit spots' and enjoyed looking at and listening to the natural world. We have also been lucky enough to learn from different people including Rev. Deborah who came and took Collective Worship on Ash Wednesday to help us mark the start of lent.  Mrs Ward (Celene's Nanny) was really kind and brought some frogspawn in for us to observe and learn about.  We also enjoyed reading books to children in the pre-school and to one another to celebrate World Book Day 2019! Next week keep an eye on our blog for some more special visitors...

Village Show

Last weekend our sock creations, art work and efforts from our gardening club were all on display at Hickling Barn for the annual Village Show.  There were many '1st in Class' prizes gained as well as the gardening club wining the shiny, silver cup for best in show!  WOW!   This would not have been made possible without lots of help from people, especially Brenda who gives up so much of her time to run the gardening club and who passes on so much knowledge and enthusiasm for 'growing your own!'

Owls

Today we had the BEST visitors...Happisburgh Owls came to see us AND we learnt so much!  We met a Barn Owl called Ghost, a Tawny Owl called Bracken, a Little Owl called Munchkin, an Eagle Owl called Shanti and a Northern White-Faced Owl called Trouble. Ask us about owls vision and hearing - we are experts!  We also know that owls favourite foods are mice, rats and especially voles.   Our best fact of the day was that when you hear Tawny Owls, it is the girl saying 'twit' and the boy answering 'twoo.'   What an AMAZING experience!
