Ducklings

We have waited with anticipation this week as on Monday five, white eggs arrived at school.  We learnt that they were in a box that we could see into called an incubator to keep them warm.  On Wednesday Miss Wones arrived at school to find one little duckling chirping away.  It's brothers and sisters have taken until today to arrive, but it was worth the wait.  We watched for the fourth duckling to break out of it's shell using it's 'egg tooth.'  We were willing it on!  Miss Turner caught the moment on camera - truly amazing!

 As well as duckling cuddles, we have started gardening, went digging for worms at Forest School, investigated weighing objects in Maths and even found time to finish our bird sculptures in Art and re-tell the story of The Ugly Duckling.  Phew!

Owls

Today we had the BEST visitors...Happisburgh Owls came to see us AND we learnt so much!  We met a Barn Owl called Ghost, a Tawny Owl called Bracken, a Little Owl called Munchkin, an Eagle Owl called Shanti and a Northern White-Faced Owl called Trouble. Ask us about owls vision and hearing - we are experts!  We also know that owls favourite foods are mice, rats and especially voles.   Our best fact of the day was that when you hear Tawny Owls, it is the girl saying 'twit' and the boy answering 'twoo.'   What an AMAZING experience!

Farm Visit

Mrs Holmes, Miss Turner and Mrs. Bush took our amazing reception and year 1 children to the farm, we had a fantastic day even in the rain! It was great fun being collected by tractor and trailer.  We saw Hickling broad, walked, jumped and cleaned our wellies in the puddles (we all loved this bit!)  In the fields there were potatoes and sugar beet growing, farmer Jack pulled some up for us to see.  When we got to the farm we all had a turn sitting in the tractor and combine harvester, most of us curled up inside the wheels.  We all held chicks and found out that at the moment they have 80,000 chicks on the farm - wow!!  We looked at creatures from the pond, different moths, pictures of different birds and we found out how birds are ringed, we even had a go at throwing toy birds in to the net that catches them for ringing.  After all of this we ran down to the old mill and climbed to the top, we could see across the broad and lots of swans.  On the way home we stopped off to see the co

Final week of Spring Term!

We were treated at the beginning of the week to a wonderful visit from Chris at the Norfolk Children's Book Centre who told us some fabulous stories and we even had time to buy some new books too for home and school.  Our favourite book that Chris read was called 'The Book With No Pictures' because it made us laugh! We ended our week with a walk in the sunshine to deliver Easter cards to all those people who help us at school by hearing us read, playing the piano, delivering Collective Worship and doing arts and crafts with us.  At the same time we did our second litter pick around the village and collected half a bag of plastic, wire and other litter.
